Filmmaker Volochine on Following a Russian Battalion in Donbas

Elena Volochine and James de Caupenne-Keogh’s film Oleg’s Choice presents the fighting in Donbas from the perspective of an individual battalion and its two Russian volunteer heroes, Oleg and Max. In what quickly becomes a poignantly personal psychological testimony on war through the eyes of Oleg and Max, Oleg’s Choice reveals the intersecting dynamics of motivations behind volunteers joining the Donbas front. Whether fuelled by patriotic propaganda or just a thirst for the war game, the themes of human loss and war trauma feature prominently in the events faced by all those situated in Donbas.
