DANYLIW RESEARCH SEMINAR ON CONTEMPORARY UKRAINE

The book advances an anthropological approach to the Holodomor that moves beyond primarily historiographical treatments of the famine to theorize about its enduring social and political legacy. It makes three contributions. First, it develops an ethnographic theory of genocide memory as a living political framework, linked to other ongoing conversations of imperial violence. Second, it demonstrates how shifts in Holodomor narratives channeled contemporary sociopolitical transformations and crisis interpretations.  Finally, it integrates anthropological theory with more common historiographical approaches to the Holodomor to show how memory and identity are co-produced over time.
