‘I decided to be silent’: Dina Pronicheva, Theatre,
and Trauma in Wartime and Postwar Soviet Ukraine

This talk places Dina Pronicheva, actress and survivor of Babyn Iar, in the historiography of Ukrainian theatre under Nazi occupation, which uncovers the Jewish experience. It explores how the body carries its own stories; and questions how theatre artists who had survived the war might have imparted this embodied knowledge to their audiences.

Mayhill C. Fowler is an associate professor in the Department of History at Stetson University (US).
