News Under Siege:
The Struggle to Save Independent Media in Wartime Ukraine

This presentation will explore the twin blows inflicted by Moscow’s relentless war on infrastructure and by wartime information controls imposed by the Ukrainian government itself. Ukraine’s recovery will not succeed without a simultaneous revival of its independent media. Funding priorities should support regional newsrooms, legal protections for journalists, digital infrastructure investments, and the creation of alternative revenue streams for non-state outlets.

Michael Bociurkiw, a Canadian based in Odesa, is a global affairs analyst and senior fellow of the Atlantic Council.
