Elderly Care in Ukraine during the War: “Unpromising Sector” and the Dynamic Continuum of Fragmented Arrangements

Similar to many countries, Ukraine has been facing the challenges of population aging for decades, a cumulative result of socio-economic problems, shrinking childbirth and outmigration of the working-age population, described as “ageing from below”. The 2014 Donbas War accelerated the demographic changes, and even more since the 2022 Russian full-scale invasion. How do families navigate the existing care infrastructure under wartime conditions?
