Animals in the Symbolic Representations

of the Russo-Ukrainian War

The paper approaches the meaning of non-human actors as they appear in the imagery and symbolic representations in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. When each life is threatened, the understanding of life extends: human, non-human, planet, and natural environment are understood as inseparable entities. Such an analysis sheds light on the context of war itself, especially on the society where this imaginary is circulated.

Yulia Yurchuk is Senior Lecturer at Södertörn University (Sweden).
