DANYLIW RESEARCH SEMINAR ON CONTEMPORARY UKRAINE

This is the story of a Russian-speaking boy from the Soviet Union who becomes the President of Ukraine; the story of a young man who dreamt of showbusiness celebrity, only to turn himself into a wartime leader. This film recounts the extraordinary making  of Volodymyr Zelensky. The filmmakers went to meet the men and women who have shaped his life, in particular his childhood friends from his hometown of Kryvyï Rih, who joined him in his comedy troupe and production studio Kvartal 95. The 2014 annexation of Crimea was a turning point. It was then that his transformation began, mirroring how Ukraine changed.
