Social Participation in Ukrainian Genocides:

The Holodomor and Russia’s Ongoing Genocide

This paper asks how and why people participate in genocides. By juxtaposing the social processes surrounding the 1932-1933 Holodomor and Russia’s ongoing genocide in Ukraine, it examines potential areas of overlap and divergence. It explores the social contexts, addresses the social roles of perpetrators, and engages questions of social practices and meaning making amid genocides.

Kristina Hook is an Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University (US).
